End of the Year Tally

Its the end of the year and the news shows and talk shows all talk about what the past year has held,, has accomplished, ~Happenings in our lives....

Jan we had lots of snow in Mo, I did plenty of sewing on the GoodDeeds.

Feb was a new adventure of a cruise, the many Ocean blues made for a quilt afterwards. Grandson Carson had his first birthday ! We came home from there with an Big Beastly RV.

March was shoulder surgery for Tim and many hrs of rehab.

April was a finish it up month with several quilts out the door. More rehab.

May was Jake's 30 Birthday, boy time flys !

June My 14 yr old hearing aid croaked. I was forced to accept that technology has gone backwards in that area....

July We took the RV to Iowa for Aaron's Birthday. Lori joined us w her rig and we attended 35 yr class reunion. End of July I got mad and tried a different hearing aid again..

Aug Tim's brother Don was here few days. Tim also took a trip to Montana to see his brother Charlie. I was still fussing this hearing aid...

Sept We did some camping at places that had pools for relief. I was a hermit working at canning goodies from the garden and filling the days with sewing. We hit the jackpot at a rummage sale for guilty fabrics adding 100 yds to the stash!

Oct was busy with a visit from Nancy then a trip thru Iowa for a family wedding and farther north to Chicago to try to visit Tim's son.

Nov We celebrated my birthday and anniversary with sisters here.

Dec was another finish it up month for the GoodDeeds with the year coming to a close I needed to increase the number !

I'm gearing up for 2012 with a few ideas tucked aside and BIG stash to work from !

Both sisters came up for my birthday after Thanksgiving. So while pacing/ waiting.. I got the tree up and the lights on. Then while Lin & I made supper. .. somebody came to snoop presents !

There's always a few projects to do after B'fast !

.... work in the garden. Our tomatoes lasted in the garden till 11/14.. and in the garage till 12/10 !!

... theres always crap off this dm tree to clean up. if its not outside its stuck to Divas tail and brought inside. a hand full at a time..

... but it has interesting like a puzzle type nuts

It will continue shedding till spring ! We don't have this tree in Iowa.

The yard was raked yesterday, this is just the piles from the gutters. We don't clean gutters in DEC in Iowa.

A Very Busy Fall

Im playing catch up ! We did a big trip to Iowa in Oct for a family wedding.

From the wedding we traveled north to Chicago for a couple days.

Its a long drive up there! We wandered a couple quilt shops, drove around the city killing lots of time. We did spend one evening with Tim's son and family going out for pizza to celebrate a birthday !

Nancy came down from Iowa for a few days ! While we talked till our jaws hurt and stayed up till 3 am,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, we did sew some too !!

I started 2 new quilt tops while she was here and finished 4 since she left... Progress !

This is a portion of the Millennium quilt, It grew so large I split the blocks up and got a 2nd smaller quilt ! The many squares of color were part of a world wide swap by quilters in the chat room I was with at the time. We all packaged up envelopes of 80 bitty squares and mailed them everywhere ! Germany, Australia, Saudi, Japan, every Provence in Canada !

Gina, is a fire victim of a recalled Ceramic firepot, that used a gel fuel, If you have this type product PITCH IT !

2 weeks ago I was blessed with 100+ yds of fabric. Its been folded and fondled, dreamed on, and now put to work !
A large portion of Brights was used in making 3 Confetti quilt tops for the GoodDeed pile.
This weeks quilt colors are Tan, Navy, Wine, Brown,, stay tuned to see what they become...

TheDiva is my happy helper most days

I was fighting to get used to a new hearing aid all of July & August, which makes me b'witchy. and leads to LOTS of sewing. On the ironing board I have 4 blue feathered stars , I also did up 5 lime green ones for a gal in TX.

A local lady that had given me much yardage for backs asked to have a quilt made for her grandbaby. I was inspired to do a wholecloth on satin left from the wedding of her son.
It stitched up really well.

I made 6 red feathered star quilt tops and have 3 listed on ebay at the moment.

I stitched 6 dozen stain glass blocks. They are listed in packs of 12 on ebay at the moment.

Today I'm finishing an Irish chain quilt for Gina who was burned badly be a gel fire pot. She was life flighted to the Univ of Ia hospital last week. scary !

These pots were RECALLED in June'11, but not all shops took it off the shelf !!! If you have one of the stoneware ceramic fire pots that use a gel alcohol fuel. ~Pitch It ! ~

Do a google of fire pots warning. I cant seem to get the link to show on here, Please pass this along its important.

I had a exciting Saturday ! Upon waking up looking outside 7 am I noticed the neighbors were setting up a rummage sale. I don't DO rummage sales I don't need more junk. ... right LOLL.

7:10 I think there might be batting on a table over there. hmmm...
7:14 there are a lot of people wandering around over there. Maybe there is something good..
7:20 I hustle into some clothing and ooops better comb my hair ! and some shoes !
7:30 wander around 3 church tables stacked high with so many prints and hues of color fabrics, threads, quilt books, embroidery parts. Boy this lady had a lot of stuff...and I watch women with hubbys all bit dazed carrying arm loads to the 'clerk' . while I'm trying to guess the pricing on all this stuff/merchandise.
7:45 My Hubby arrives home and sees me over there... then sees the piles of fabric and quilter goodies. OhOH.....
7:50 " HoneyyyMrMano'mine.. . I need some cash.......... lots of cash...

8:03 Both our arms are full. I waltz back across the road with 45 yd of $9 batiks for $35.

The neighbors show up on my door step with Big fat moving box,

The bottom falling out of it... wheeled over on a dolly cause they could not lift it......

filled to the brim with all the leftovers of the day. MORE ! . After sorting it all out I had another 50 yd of quilt cotton fabric, 20+ yd of flannels, a heap of suitings and skirt weights and many yards of satiny silky blouse colors.

. ..of course I cant leave all the crap around the house... Up & down the hallway... Think the 'Hoarders shows' have scared me ! so off to the city to find some bins.

Then to clean closets so the bins have a place. Then I found MORE there!

Last winter I was sent boxes for backing from Kay in AZ, Shell in KS had given me a bag full early spring, Angela had brought a quantity over late spring.. I still had 3 bins of my own and past donations from Lori, Linda,Shirley, Nancy all had to be mixed up, stirred, refolded, fondled, dreamed on, and stashed away in a manner to Make Use Of Soon....

the day was productive with lots of loot and 2 closets rearranged plus I'm motivated again !!
.. next donation burst I would like a few elves...

As hot as its been( 110+ index) its almost easier to stay in the cool welcome AC of home. The garden is starting to produce with few cukes and tomatoes the beans are spotty and prolly should be yanked out. I have a box of Good Deeds setting here needing a home. I have the OceanBlues quilt in the RV waiting for a hem... on the frame is a satin blue baby quilt for friends... on the table is yardage to be cut of 6 red and 5 lime green feathered star pattern... guess I better get back to work !

I have spent the past couple weeks getting the Ocean Quilt together, first to hustle with the piecing before going to Landon's Graduation Party in Davenport. He had a great party! and the quilt top was checked out on a king bed. ~ its big !

The it got hustled to the garage to be basted with help from Tim. LOL!! I like this pic! It shows ALL my favorite things.

Here you can see the many colors of blue, Belizey blue, CostaMaya blue, Inky Ocean waters, and the curves and motion of the waves, inspired from the Cruise we did in Feb.

Since I haven't posted finished quilts in a spell. Here's to say YES I have been staying busy with them. ! I finished several this past month and they are packed in a box ready to go OUT to their J O B S. I had Tims help, while he is off work, with the basting of them in the garage.

You saw a few of these when they were just single layer tops. They're done now.

Thanks to Bills wife fro some neat 60's style prints and other bright squares were found then used from her donated box full !

Thanks to Kay for large yardage that was used for several back sides.

Thanks to Angela for some pretty yellow that was used in sashings. flowers. and also some yardage for back sides !

and of course Lori, Nancy, Shell & Lin for boxes of colors I'm still working from.

The Flower Power quilts were a joy to work on. Its spring !!

I had a couple Mothers Days this year. Sunday we did omelets and ate on the patio. while waiting for phone calls...

Tues I recvd flowers from Diva. She made sure they were done up right with her lil nose in the process.

Its been awhile since I've posted on here things are happening still !

We did couple camp outs and are learning to set up the Beast and live in it.

Tim and Diva chose this quilt called 'Colorbox' for the bed.

Tim soaking up the sunshine. I forget if this was before or after a tornado siren. There was a storm elsewhere in our county and all the sirens went off. Exciting, and good to be wary..

Yes, I can still sew like crazy in the Beast... and I have been! stay tuned for a quilt up date too.

For March we have been busy packing this up so its ready when Spring does arrive ! CampDavid is going Mobile !

In and around all this I have been sewing. Tim helped me baste 5 tops in the cold garage one day. Those are in the process of getting quilted and bound.
Shell came to visit and we found Ocean colors fabric for a RV quilt.

I am cleaning closets again finding all things I have two of for the camper . Also all things I have two of quilting related !! I will be sewing out there just as much as at home.

Today is National Quilting Day, I'm busy with cutting kits for CampDavids travels...........

Snow ! we have snow ! we have wind ! We have swirly drifts !

Feels like I'm back home in N Iowa ! Tim had to shovel a path before Diva would go outside. Rare for her !

Cracker is very carefully plowing thru snow up to his chest. There is a 12 " flower pot near the trellis.... see it ????

I think these chairs would give you a cold butt !.... and do you see my blue pool anywhere????

Last week Diva was 'skating' on the blue pool. She will get a rude awakening come spring !

I love a good snow storm when we are home safe n sound to watch it sans worrying about roads. Its a good time to hibernate, cook, clean, watch movies, sew...

Carson & Raelle

Dec went fast ! Jan is going even faster ! here is the late scoop of the family Christmas happening on NewYears. Three sisters relaxing after all the food, giftys, noise ,wrapping paper, ectect was done . ~~ cheers and good things for 2011 ! It was Carsons 1st Christmas, ribbons are good things !. cookies are too !

.. and the annual Christmas Quilt got started late April then inspired me to make TWO.. they called out their own Owners of Jake and Aaron to

care for them.

Both Quilts are styled after Frank LLoyd Write house windows.
Aaron's quilt on the left is based on the Darwin D Martin House , Tree of Life in Buffalo, New York, 1904.

Jake's quilt on the right is based on Charles Ennis House in Los Angels, Calif. in 1924- 26.

I named the quilts 'Frost On Franks Windows' due to a glazed icy colored fabric used in the white space.

I'm currently stitching madly on a MilleniumQuilt or '2000 stinkinSquares'.. I haven't counted how many were used yet, tho there are many left in the box ! ........

Two Projects

Finally I have time for MY projects, The holiday sewing is done!
Now is the time for the '2000 stinkin squares' or nicer name of Milenium swap squares. They were swapped by the CrazyQuilters chat group in 1999/2000. I think they have sat in the box long enough and its time to getRdone.

Here's the start of the mess. They will be sewn on the Singer industrial model, made in November 1938. This is a rescued freecycle machine, repainted, plus a lil tune-up. The base box had broken hinges so I recovered with fabric to hide the fix it job there too !

These old classic machines have pretty details that our current plastic machines don't have . Neat !

The machine in the beginning was very rough, textured industrial grey machine. Many people would try to protect the integrity of the old details. Since there really wasn't much for savable paint details so I don't feel bad for changing the paint. I did save the serial number and the Singer medallion on the front. I added curly pinstripe decals and the local repair guy re oiled the mechanical parts.

I'll be testing her out on the 2000 Stinkin Squares that I'm sewing on tween now and NewYears

Saturday morning at CampDavid

Last week we were up north to see the boys and their families, some shopping, some early Christmas.. some fussing over Carson & Raelle. a pizza B'day party . It was a busy weekend ! we also made a run to the mall with Aaron to pick up a ring ! With that we welcome Natalie to our crazy family.

On getting home Tim has fussed over a sore shoulder for a couple weeks, and went to the Dr.. along with an RX, she shut the PuterMonsters OFF ! (Lets just say this is torture for BOTH of us.)

While they are getting winter blizzard warnings up north.. Diva is snuggling in her home made cave here. I think she is part mole, she burrows in wherever she can all by herself.

Also while up north we visited with Nancy and gave her 10 quilts for her latest project planning an auction to raise $ for a health clinic. One snazzy quilt and 9 lap size Good Deeds. That will be my last donation for the year bringing the total for 2010 to 39. Thank you all for the help! I'm not done yet! Ive been rummaging in the color boxes and have plans for many more in 2011 .

Finally its looking a lot like Christmas around here. I had Tim help put our lil tree up ( to keep him busy/distracted for few) Then spent the afternoon making a list checking it twice and wrapping.

Country Quilt Project ~ the rest of the story..

Its a warm today ~ I don't think we will have too many more. I'm caught up on the HAVE TO DO things. The Christmas quilts are done , both of them. Nancy's auction quilt got hemmed last night. A wedding one is near done. I recvd a BIg Box of fabric reccently from Kay In AZ. ( Thank You kay) So we spent the morning in the garage basting five country tops. I really like Tim's help. That's a lot of pins. This week will be spent quilting on them!

Ive had a fun month of sewing finishing the Christmas quits, Heres the TEASE: I named them 'Frost on Franks Windows' LOL You figger it out !

I had couple days of shopping w the sisters for cruise clothing. We celebrated Shells birthday with supper out and drinks on Tim. ; )

I had a fun visitor of Sharonqlts, a great gal from the old chat room CraZyQuilTers. She was enroute from Va to Seattle. We talked non stop just like old times !

Facebook seems to be the new way to chat and keep up with those we know. Its also good for reconnecting with those we often wonder about. Its been fun talking to classmates and others with bits of our daily lives thrown in.

End of the Season

Its end of the season here. The news talked about a hard frost tonite possible 27*. So with a big sigh to the last of the garden goodies, we tore it all out. I tried to do a second season of green beans. Ill plant them bit earlier next year. These were planted August 16 and just now produced 12 beans. The small tomatoes will be added to a basket full on the counter.

Tonite is pasta using the majority of those!

I'm also keeping up with the Good Deeds. The top shown is the last of the colors purchased for Nancy's Auction quilt. Tis a good thing its not all assembled ! Tim found 3 errors I need to fix first.

All in a Day

All in a day ~ Heres my mess.. LOL some quilters have studios, I call that the house. I sew in many places, just bring the tv tray along. I cut on the dining room table. I iron in the spare bedroom. In the winter the quilt frame has couple different spots it migrates to also. ( I have a really good vacumn)

Yesterday I fussed with a pencil and math to design a border for Nancys quilt. After spending the morning stitching it together it just didnt have the 'framing abilty' I wanted in a border so I ripped it off,,~ frog stitch. ripit rippitt!~ This afternoon a new plan was sewn and added to her quilt. This top is done. ( a sneek peek on the chair)

ALL in a week~ Lin and Shell were here few days. After they left the place was way tooo quiet !! Just Diva and the humm of the machine. These 3 stars were finished this week. 2 are comission job. The star w red border is a GoodDeed. Also DO notice the neat Hawiian Pillow from Lin . Neat !

From my Quilter mail list they talked about old projects. I remebered I still had a box of 2 1/2" squares tucked away from swapping 'millenium squares' in '99. This box has moved with me around Ia to Chicago and around MO. Its all there, still in envelopes with a string around the box.

As I open the box and thumb thru scanning the addys on the envelopes I come to a folded up bundle of Xerox pages.. of a pattern called 'rainbow around the world'

It so happens ! today ! I also pulled a book from the shelf with that same pattern with thoughts to use this box of squares finally~ TEN yrs after the fact !

the pattern is from a book printed in 1994 by Boonslick Trail Quilters a Columbia MO quilt guild in MO. I moved to Columbia MO in 2004. and bought the book at a show 2 yrs ago '08.

Guess what Ill be doing for the next big quilt??! I think 2010 is past due for a Millenium Quilt, I better get busy !

Country Project DONE

I'm calling this project DONE ! Five Good Deed tops were assembled from the bundle of county style fabric I had in a sack. The fabric donated by Dianna. ( My Avon Lady) The first 3 tops used the bulk of the various colors cut into squares along with setting triangles on the edges and borders. The 2nd cutting was using up all the last bits cut at 1 1/2 " and framing a large print. An easy use for small bits ! The 3rd cutting was use of a pale gold as sashing to 4 pillow panels, another easy finish !

All that's left of the original pile is 3 neutrals/muslin that will be put back in the box till next time.

Now I'm back to a bit of commission sewing, Nancys quilt and Christmas Quilts2010 !!
My machine conked out last week so off we went to Sears for a new one.
The machines earn their keep around here.

I have so far constructed 3 quilt tops from the Challenge pile. Also shown is the heap of trimmings, Not much gets wasted ! I have one more top setting there waiting to be put together. It will use 1 1/2 inch bits as a border around the larger print center. Whats left at this point is group of neutrals to be used for bindings. I did remove a star print from the beginning group to a group of brights back in the closet.

I had challenged other quilters to 'Use it till its gone' on the stashbuster list, but no verbal takers. Oh well Ive got 4 tops near done , plus an Idea for a Bright one coming !

Oprah got me started on this with a show challenging folks to make a difference one by one. Ive had lots of help as it bloomed with friends & family getting involved in anyway they could. Recently I put the word out for backside yardage. I got good action back once more ! Thanks for the help !!

To date we have : 25 quilts out the door and a few on hangers in the closet .. 2010 ain't done yet !

Country Quilt Project

..... in the Beginning.........

I cleaned the closet.. and came up with medium sized bundle of 'country' fabrics. (Plaids, strips, old calicos, tan, brown,.....)

I have done this before with a 'blue' theme. that amounted to about 7 quilts that time.. another time I had a shoe box full of brights while stationed in a hotel in Okla for a month. I think I got 4 quilts that time.

This Country Theme stack contains many sizes, strips, colors, backgrounds,, everything from 2 inch to 2 ft in yardage. I have a list of possible patterns, Sunshine & shadows, 4sq window pane, Chinese coins, 9 patch chain. strips... all are very simply done but will surely use it till GONE~!

I'm also on an email list called Stashbusters that encourages us to USE the stash.... so here we go ... DareYA! Use it till its Gone !

July Projects

It Feels like summer is flying past us in a big hurry ! Maybe that's just the Iowa in me since it stays warm down here thru Sept. Ive been sewing right along with the Holiday Tops, making two of them this year. The pattern book is more detailed than I'm used to, but the end result is pretty snazzy.

Here are the tease pics:

Over the 4th we attended a picnic with people from Tim's church. Had a pretty good time. The MR of that house tills my garden. While at their place I admired their garden. huge! well done and surely producing many goodies!

The week following we spent in Iowa with a rented RV. Oh boy ... It rattled and banged and was a lumber wagon ! The interior needed more help than I could give it.

We had a Great time with my boys, their ladys, and Raelle & baby Carson, sisters and families, 'almost sisters', & Old neighbors. A busy busy week !

This is what I found when we got home ! Lots of garden goodies!

I canned several qts of pickles and 4 lil pints of beans, plus crock of beans for suppers this week. Yesterday I picked a basket of tomatoes for an Italian meal tonite.

I started a summer quilt top while camping, useing barbie pinks, Margarita greens, lemonade yellows, and beachy red. I'll work on that today while watching the rain water my garden for me.

June Projects

We have been staying busy here, our spring jumped into summer with the tropical style heat and humidity. but the Garden luvs it !! Soon we will have goodies from there.

Finally after my required sewing, Ive got the new canopy on the swing. The old one used to be pink, now faded to a moldy grey. YUK . I cut it off the frame and measured directly onto the green fabric ~ It Fits !

My Tx Lady I sew for has been in a rut with dark brown and black fabrics for her stars. This time she chose a jazzy blue with teal polka dots for 4 stars!

The Holiday Quilt for 2010 has begun !! I'm only 6 months behind ! so why not Do TWO ? and here is a tease of the colors and the Backside !

We also sent 5 of the previous GoodDeeds to Peggy in MC for a charity auction. I have few more in the closet finished, and a few more on hangers needing quilting, and manymany more in the Idea stage.
I'm not done yet ~~ but now its time for either the pool or a ride ~~ seeya~~

Every now and then I buy BIG BULK Batting. I found a new source, sorta local and off we went on a road trip. Ive never gave much thought to how much room is in that lil Ford till now.. We folded seats down, we shoved!, we tugged !, and squeeze it lil more! till the door went shut ! wow!!.

The Critic~ Diva

One of our projects this spring was a bike group ride supporting http://www.homesforourtroops.org/. A local soldier had a house built for him with all volunteers! This was exciting that we had bikes from around the state come ride across town with police back up closing the intersections, humvees with flags, public all along the route came out to wave. Once at the house location they had Senators, Vets, even bussed in his Troop Unit. The walls went up like an Amish barn raising with the shingles nailed down by Sunday ! It was amazing and humbling to be part of this project.

I figured a quilt would be needed in his new house.

Also this spring after connecting with some memories from High School. I got dared by Tim to DO some art... something~anything ~~

The box of pastels was found after to many moves and 20+ yrs in storage!

A Productive Month

While pacing/stitching WAITING for Carson to arrive I had plenty of projects in the works !

All of Jan part of Feb was hand quilting a Wholecloth White Quilt for the baby. This is a tradition many family baby have recvd. I draft out a design with pencil, on plain humble white muslin and stitch it up with as much quilting as can be fit on the fabric and fingers can stand. This method goes back to the 14th century with many variations of quilted clothing and trupunto techniques. ~~ google it ~

I did 5 hot pink feathered stars for a commission job.

Then got busy on stain glass quilt I had planned for ME. On my DO list since Nov! This was done once we got home watching the Olympics.
I love the colors and the way the eyes travel over this one.

Along with watching the Olympics I got six Good Deeds hemmed up, washed, ready to go do their jobs.

Yesterday I rummaged thru the color boxes for the next projects with a pile of pinky purple girly colors, and a blue & burgundy pile that will inspire me soon.

I also got a diff computor, NUTZ ! of course NON of the programs I KNOW how to do, work on this one now. My old one was 10yrs old.

I need to find a pic editing dohicky that will cut off the date on the pics. and cut ME off the pics. LOLL and maybe even figger out the camera and update the date.. oh wellllllllll....Spring will come soon too!

He's Here !!! We waited as patiently as we could. Finally got the call 8pm wed 17th. We were out the door by 9pm and drove clear thru to Iowa. Arriving there about 3:45am Feb 18 to watch Jake count fingers n toes.

He is a perfect bundle of baby boy. Hurray to Jade, Jake, & Raelle !

The Wholecloth Quilt was done with only couple days to spare!

Coming home was an adventure with white out and ice. We stopped in Ottumwa for the supper and to spend the nite. Tim was a very proud Grandpa flashing pics off the camera memory to store people, waitresses, hotel helpers... I GOTTA get him a Long Foldy pic holder !

We just got home from celebrating Tim's 60 Birthday at JIMMYS Steak House, very yummy and company shared with owners.

Tim got lucky again this year.. missing the Sisters big noisy Party. We will have to plan better for 65 !

I 've been busy stitchin like crazy on a white wholecloth for up coming BabyJ, He better wait till I'm done ..... lol.

Also bunches of Jan type cleaning sorting , Tim spoiled me with a visit from MerryMaids. so..... now I have more time to sew?????

We basted 5 Good Deeds in the garage one cold day. I have them almost done.. they need hemming. That will be a good start for 2010 !

The days till after New Years, Im back to sewing Good Deed quilts. I lost count along the way this year.. . as I count colors in my head Im guessing 28 Good Deeds donated to Lioness Project for sick kids, and several given to the Mission boys from church.

All the girls gathered up north at JakeJades house to ~Work~
We painted raelles room in Rainbow Brights.. with new bedding... new wall deco... "its a wonderland"

In the midst of all our mess and work we had time out for a bday party at the hotel with pool time too.. Cute cake "CampDavid Style'

Every good baby needs a side view ! We painted up babyJs room too .

Tis the Season - Of Color!

We've had fun news about the Honeymoon Baby. Jade sent several pics. All were exciting! but these two Lil BOY Feet lined up so perfectly tickled me !

The one thing about being down here in MO, is the seasons still change... but at a slower pace. Fall has just started , on our rides we watch for the colors changing on the bluffs around Jeff City. Last year I was doing the chiro several times a week , each drive was full of admiration of all the many colors of fall. With that palette to play with I rounded up the colors for this quilt. I got it Finished this month!

Over the past couple weeks we have been getting the yard and garden cleaned up. Using the last bits of produce in soups, stirfry & Mex dishes. Yumm !

The front of the house got some action too. Tim found 'TheEyes' they fit perfect in the front windows. We are Watching YOU !

and I BAKED a cake.!.. then ate the candy corn !

I'm now counting down till Christmas ... with 78 day till Christmas.

or less than that to get the HolidayStar'09 DONE ~

~We recently did a 6 day bike ride. We toured thru Mo. Along the ride we stopped for lunch in Monroe City , MO seeing flames shooting thru a window. curtains in flames blowing in the wind,,, the AC in the up stairs window on fire ! Tim stopped, a Truck of construction guys stopped,, they called 911, while I ran thru the house, and Tim found the garden hose to shoot it as far up as it could reach. It took the In Town Fire Dept 20 min to arrive ! when they got there they walked to their positions.. NOT RUN ?? .............. crazy.......

~ From there we cruised across to Nauvoo, Ill Mormon settlement. We did an afternoon of tours there,seeing the village with gun smith shop, school.. garden plots, Then the very fancy big Temple. We were not allowed inside as you need a special permission slip from your local church to get in.... (odd to me).

~ We did a hotel with in room hot tub that nite, old sore bones from the ride, (ooooooo Nice.) In the morning it was north to Lin & Teds. We stayed there a nite.. grilled out, got to visit with Gramma Jackie. Also went trailer shopping with Lin and boys. we found at Least ONE for each family.. we have good ideas! LOL ( thought I had bike pic from there.. maybe Lins camera?)

~ Down the road to Cedar Falls next. With a nice ride thru Iowa cornfields, pretty farms, admiring gardens along the way, fussing at the places where they mow 10 acres worth... nutz! We found Loris work. a Banquet party place... wonderful building. Sat down had a drink there before going across the road to hotel. later we did pizza with her girls and played in the pool. It made for a good nite.

~ Fri Lori had off so we rode out to her farm to view the many changes since tornado Blew it away last summer. WOW nice new red buildings and sheds. The horses have a good set up, the house and garage are situated on the hill with a view. Major progress there in the past year!

~Our trip to Eldora was sidetracked by a tornado there ! Nancy's house left standing but OH what a mess with siding & roof trashed! We did supper out at Huhot Chinese joint with Nancy, Mark, and Lori, sans kids. We all gathered afterwards at our hotel room for Much More Chatter ~ ( you expect anything else? from TheGreatCrazyIowaWomen)

~Saturday the sun was shining, it was back south we rode. It was cool so we did Jackets till state line. While we did many stops along the way, we still had numb butts by 4 pm when we arrived back at Camp David.

~And a Good Time Was Had By All ~~~

~Since arriving back home: bunches of canning from the garden. Possible study and work to do up a fall season garden. For Good Deeds I recvd a 110yard roll of batting finally.... so will be basting and quilting to keep active on the Good Deed quilts. Seven more in progress this week.

wow busy summer ! so far

Since Jakes wedding, we have played in the Garden a bunch. I will be canning tomatoes tomorrow.. I see maybe 6 qts, plus couple supper items using the goods. I have a couple large jars of refrigerator pickles in the back of frig. Hope the green beans start soon. We have herbys, Fresh garlic, red onions, red swiss chard variety of tomatoes yet in the garden.

We went north for Aarons Bday had a great time cooking out at Jakes place. Jade has that dolled up nice. We spent the day about town with Aaron and Natalie... Following Gramma Junes tradition of shopping a school outfit for Raelle,,, Girl shopping is great ! also a pizza nite in the pool, was a good trip.

We stopped at Frank & Karen's while there and with Beulla S stopping by carrying a truck load of peaches ! Tim got a crate full and came home to can them.,, yumm

We have done several nice bike rides over the summer. One to a smoke house place... neat history, crazy prices!... To an Amish market with yummy goodies S of Jeff City. To Osage beach with TOOO MANY tourists. To check out couple state parks in case we ever get an RV.

Tim is planning a week long ride around thru parts of IA soon. He is planning a trip thru Quad Cities, Cedar Falls, Eldora, sister and girlfreinds! TheGreatCrazyIowaWomenRoadTrip.

He had other stop planned but fell thru, a bonus, now we can spend lil more time cruisin.

See more sites, shop, visit, take our time... I sure hope the sun shines while out there.

I have a peeve and rant going about Dumb Women Dense Unobservant on the phones while driving ! ooooooo.!

Last week in the middle of a large jar of pickles I sliced a finger...... eeek.... Tim had to finish that mess.

This week we took the Red bike in for tune up.. He was talking to the service dept while I was talking to the sales guy!! and came home with a pretty retro Pearly White & Silver one..... snazzzzzy!

We tested that out today with a ride over thru Hanibal . LONGGGGGggggggg ride, numb butt style. WE went all out and did~ fancy~ gormet~$5 lunch at Subway! LOLL, We sure have a good time with each other.

Diva got her hair done Monday,, she was a baglady.... she is much more sporty now for her fave job of minding the garden or sitting near the pool with Us.

Im doing a mini marathon of sewing this weekend to get a comission job done to Tx lady... 7 blue feathered stars. I'm in desperate need of bulk batting when we get back from IA trip. I found aplace that sells 2 fat rolls at a time. a good deal.

My Good Deeds are on slow with all our playing this summer. last count was 18 donated.. and about 15 on hangers waiting.

I can move it myself... its easy!... it fits my lil house...........................................................................................................................................................

I'm on a misssion to clean / tidy a few things , run the vac ! ,,, swish a broom.

I have fabric on the dining room table for borders to 2 tops started last week...

Next project: is to pack up a large set of Willow china for the new bride and groom.. We gifted them a new china hutch for wedding.... now On a mission to FILL IT !...... so news paper and boxes are on my horizon this week.

While blogging around this week. I saw THE PERFECT quilt frame. called The ULmer Quilt Frame..... has square corners and ,, smaller size,,, folds up,,,,,, Not bulky like my round one........ not wobbly like my spindle saw horse one...... perfect... MR said GET IT......... so I did !

So That idea led to makeing some space and clearing out special place to set it... Im thinking moving a desk that is full of junk.... pitch the junk,,, toss the desk..., really only need a spot for keys and sun glasses.... a basket for the odd drawer of pictures..... I have a plan,,,,,,, see if it works !

Navy and Purple Good Deeds

Ive been sewing for a couple days with my own mini marathon. Here is Two tops done so far !

This is a navy pansy print from Nancy's donation box. She had many yards in there !

I think some is a Hoffman, it has lines of gold in the print.

The purples are a variety of batiks sorted out of the bundles from the red and blue quilts.

The borders are just 'add till it gets to 42" size'

Included in the use of her yardage, I cut the back side from the pansy print too.

I still have several rectangles.. and just found couple more purple strips so Im thinking ONE MORE... I still have 3 to 5 yds of the Navy prints to use up also.....

Then I found some green strips..... another? with hmmmmm large florals?? see what the day brings !! Im sewing till 8 pm.

jelly roll quilts

Since its been hot, very HOT, I stayed indoors AC and was 'productive' !

After finishing a commission job for Tx lady of 7 feathered stars. I had this bundle of batiks saved from trip to Hot Springs, Ark early spring. I love batiks. A pattern in the Jelly Roll Quilt book called for these strips.. I had so much fun with one. why not make TWO ?!... so I did.

We are busy cruisin the hills around here on the bike . Admiring the wild flower colors along the sides of the roads. We marvel at the farms that have SO MUCH mowing. endless circles.... why dont they put giant gardens in that space... be usefull...it cant take that much more time than sitting in circles....

Our garden is watched over carefully by the Diva.. she loves it out there. Tomatoes & beans soon !

We are amazed at the dumb women on phones and how VERY riskey they are to US.

( PLEASE, put the phones AWAY people)

A recent trip to town the 9 quilts in last blog were donated to Linus. Bring the total Good Deeds so far this year to about 16. with several more on hangers yet to be finished.

Yes, I'm still stitchin away ~~~~

I go in spurts, with sewing several tops,, then its sits for couple weeks. Then I get busy and quilt them.. then they sit a bit till we do the pics...

I had a visit this spring, The door bell rang.... dingdong.... AVON LAdy!

What a nice visit we had ! In all our chatter it was mentioned Good Deed quilts, 'did I get paid for this?'... 'Noooo but I have sisters and freinds that have all helped along the way.' We chatted some more... We snoooped the Avon book.... on her merry way she went,,,,,,

Couple days later ~dingdong ~~ Avon Lady... she and another friend of hers had a sack FULL of good fabric colors for me. I spent a good week motivated playing with those country style fabrics. Thank You Diana!

few weeks later ~~ dingdong~ Avon Lady..... another merry visit and much chatter ! along with another full sack of fabric colors.. all bright colors!.... again I was motivated & inspired and sewed steady for a week.

I still have good sized bundles of colors to play with. They will get used! They will go tword more Good Deed Quilts. Thank you kindly Diana and her lady friends.

I need to order bulk roll of batting again. Progress! Our garden is growing well. Diva is entertained by the kids out back and practicing her 'singing'. I hope to soon have the blue lagoon pool filled up . ~~ Summer at Camp David~~K

While riding on Tuesday thru Jefferson City, we came upon a sign advertising a town festival....... ahem.... the Testical Festival in Olean Mo.

Tim of course had to google it.. then plan a route to attend this event and see for ourselves what it was.

We had a nice sun shiney ride. We saw hundreds of bikes. Bike people of all ages.. lots of our age !

There were a few crafty booths. We did B'fast prior,,,,, so we didint DO the offered lunch. ahahaha.

We had all the girls gather in one location for weekend of dress shopping.. shoe shopping.. shower giftys.. to much food... lots of chatter......... TYPICAL !!

Super Bowl weekend was spent sewing up a storm. After choosing a color combo ( Anything Solid) These 3 tops fell into place. They stitched up fast ! For those that 'stash bust' No Idea how much fabric got used up but it all came from the closet. I didn't fuss over color choices I just cut a big pile of many solids and sew till its gone ! Next week is quilting the Purple Braid tops and perhaps if its warm, baste these. The year has a good start with 7 Good Deed tops so far. Pot Roast yesterday.... Soup & Fresh bread today..... Hibernating is a good thing.

Update 2 /14
All the purple quilts are quilted and hemmed. These 3 solids are quilted & hemmed DONE!. I have one bright colored one left to do. Currently am stichin on Feathered Stars for Tx lady. Next week a work trip to Ark w Hubby. Ill take the machine along for while he is in classes.

Staying Busy

I started January off with designing and piecing the HolidayStar for '09
Here's the sneek peak before it goes on the frame!

I bought a new book this winter 'Jelly Roll Quilts' It has quilts made using strips.. fast to cut, fast to sew! In the past 2 weeks Ive done 2 Purple Braid tops, One Purple with squares,,, and one with bright colors. I also have on the table 2 more with an Amish flavor.... solid colors with skinny black.

In the middle of this we got my hearing aid fixed.... I'm Backkkkkk!.. sounds good !
We are making soups... making breads.... making bean mixes for more soups.
Had to send my rings in to get fixed to, a stone fell out,, nutz,, now my fingers are nekid. eeek!

We are staying busy while hibernating ! ~~K

I'm making a list.. checking it twice.. actually several lists .

First is Holiday prep... for a quiet day just the two of us on Christmas Day. Mr will be working ,, then sleeping some of it. We will do a ham dinner and pie.

Diva is all decked out with red scarf.. Her hair apt changed till after the New Year... she is a bit of a bag lady right now LOLLL

The boxes that go to Chicago are sent.. the boxes that go to Des Moines Hotel weekend are stacked in the garage. Along with bunches of Groceries to feed the crowd there. Our crowd is growing this year with Jake's engagement to Jade and her daughter Raelle, Neat!

This year has flown by so very fast!!! I just finished the Holiday 08 star quilt,, all while thinking 'wasn't I just sitting here doing Kay's School houses?' The Holiday Star will be passed to new owners at the Hotel.

A good portion of our year was spent with new Bike riding hobby,,, Tim and I rode all over Mo. This past week Sun Dec 14,,, it was 50* plus here and we went out for B'fast on it. Sure cant do that in Iowa ! The weather changed in the afternoon dropping to 30s with sleet.

I kept up the sewing all year long with more Good Deeds and many many shopping totes .( 46) and a few orders to clients.

On the Good Deed Quilts, We gave 3 more this week to the church. Bringing this years total of Good Deed quilts to 15. Not the same as last years marathon,, but good thoughts non the less.

I've also cleaned out the many boxes of donated fabric. Transferring color combos to an Idea Box and the rest to Big bins for better access and storage. 09 Has more quilts coming, Too many Ideas to quit now !

Fall Colors

We have been having ball with the Glorious Fall Colors !
Every drive on the bike we oooh ahhh at the mix and variation of the colors. God was wonderful painter.
Last year with all our drives and trips to the chiro I was inspired to
save and preserve these colors. The quilt top is finished but not quilted yet, however it is in a photo contest.
Tim had fun using the old 35mm at the Landscape shop nearby.

He caught me too!

We did several rides this fall as the weather and colors changed.

Couple trips were for Toy rides with the bike group. This was a new thing for us and very exciting. The Police closed off the route escorting the group of 500+ bikes ! (very noisy) People stood on the porches and cheered. This group gathered a gym full of toys and food donations.

The next week we did a smaller group of only 100 bikes... same escorted parade set up with chili lunch furnished afterwards. This group accumulated 2 trucks full. That's a lot of Good Deeds.

Summer is flying past at a Too Quick pace.

We have been up north couple times.

Rode the bike a bunch around here.... down to Osage beach..... out to a Mexican place for nachos.

The garden is doing nicely with cukes, eggplant and tomatoes to can.

I'm still sewing.. just finished a Large Quilt for a lady at work.

Also have several stars on the table to stitch up for Susan in Tx.

In between all that I redid the kitchen. It was very simply done with new iron door handles and a flashy black cherry paint job. wowwwwwww !

Time Flys

Time sure flys when your busy !!! Since I last did the blog. Tornadoes tor thru New Hartford w a friends house shredded. Several friend and family filled a Huge truck with goodies for those in need there.

Flooding caused trouble from one end of Ia to the other with more friends and family fighting that mess.

Most of the Gang went north and we closed up the family home.

Here: Hubby and I have taken up Motorcycling!! yes we have helmets. So far we haven't gone to far we take a ride do b'fast or lunch and come home again.

The garden is growing, Diva loves setting out there watching over it.

The 5 quilts shown went to eastern Ia. for some women's help. The red one is lady bugs. It was the most fun to make.

This past week we did a road trip to Paducah, Ky !

We went to see the town, NOT the ZOO of the International Quilt Show.

We went to Hancocks of Paducah fabric store, like a warehouse of designer fabrics with designer prices.

We went down town to the river history of the city. Nice restored old buildings.

Elenor Burns has a shop there.. I did buy some fabric and enjoyed her samples on the walls.

From there we explored the quilt museum. It had wonderful artsy, complicated, masterpiece quilts.

The nicest part was cruising the big park with the trees in bloom ! Wish you were there Lin.

Coming home, was heavy rain and the roads we chose going far around St Louis and its flooding, were filling up. Anything that could be a mud puddle was !

Its always nice to do a trip... but nice to get home too.

This month a 55 yard roll of batting was delivered. I now have 5 finished Good Deeds ready to go !

Here's what I've been fussing over since Christmas. This will be the Holiday quilt to be given away by drawing to family next Christmas.

For those that do stash or scrap quilts this ALL fabric from the closet ! 1/3 yd this box.. 1/2 yd my box..... 1/4yd another box.. and the Christmas border print from Nancys box.

Now to get it hand quilted by then !

Part of January was spent making lined grocery/beach totes from donated upholstery fabric. I made 22 bags. We sold some to friends at work. Thank you to those that purchased them. I'm sure they will hold lots of good things for you. I used the proceeds for thread and batting.

Next up, is more Good Deeds that are on hangers in the closet. Its time to get EM done and put them to work.

Tues finally had couple guys come thru to price running a gas line. possibly hook up a gas stove.
Wed the sewer backed up flooding my kitchen... on the phone for that thru Home Warranty people and trying to get someone down here..... they finally came today... here for 2 hours ,, rotor routed in 3 directions! to the street.
Tim has a doozy cold all week and takin to much RX makes him scatterbrained mumbley,,, all while on the phone with ALL these things..... NUTZ
Then the guy next door is getting new shingles.. so they came here for sales pitch, to inspect the roof..... of course some are needed.... call the Ins folks for possible hail damage.
Wed nite Tim crashed the truck thru a state sign,, the bumper is hanging, the windshield a million pieces, and the roof and top of windshield have a deep kink. We get that checked out at shop and estimated on Mon.
Diva got her hair done and is pretty now. I'm working on a million lil diamonds quilt top and cussing at it, among other things.
The rest of Jan is canceled. ~~~~K

This WinterQuilt, we will hold a drawing for the family members that show up for our BIG family Christmas next weekend!!! It has show stopping knife point triangles... the tapestry print in the center is hand quilted in snow drifts with red piping around the edges...... We had a great Thanksgiving here with 10 that came down for a feast.

Once that was done we Partied !! Sisters and sons were here...... we played in the pool..shopped.. ate cake.... margaritas..... made lots of noise... lots of stories... few pics.... and wonderfull giftys. The weekend went too fast.

since then its more shopping ! wrapping! hand quilting a special one.. hassling thru an Ice storm with bunches of trees down.

For the record 2007 had 42 Good Deed quilts delivered to the Linus org. And another 40 were sewn for funds and fun......... my machine is running good !!!

January will be back to sewing routine and more Good Deeds.. the closet is still full of fabric !....... hohoho ~~~K

Happy Thanksgiving !!!

Here is the start of our goodies. along with a box of groc in the garage. No one will leave hungry.

Along with Thanksgiving is my Bday and Anniv ! I have sent out
many many invites and will end up with 12 at the table.

The sisters and I will get out the china.... eat cake..... get loud..... maybe even shop. I see Kohls is opening at FOUR AM !!! crazy. Tempted to go there just to see how many showed up... makes me NUTZ too !

We covered the miles this fall.. with a trip up the river to Linda's then on up to Chicago for Kayla's bday end of Oct. First week of Nov sent us across to KC and fight to Vegas !! We celebrated there with the Circus Soleil show Mystere`

The show was great... the streets of Vegas crazy with people.. we didn't gamble much so didn't bring any home either.

It was a nice drive viewing the leaves across the many miles. Wonderful color. I came home and stitched up Two tops using fall colors.

I have sewn non stop Oct thru Dec on family and client items. Jan will be NON stop on Good Deeds !!! I have several tops on hangers in the closet. and several Ideas set aside in a box.

Its September, In Iowa this would be the start of FAll.

Here in Mo I still have the pool up, still picking tomatoes, still mowing the yard, but definitely cooler than it was in Okla.

We came home to a bunch of chores and tasks to get ready for the coming change of seasons. I bid the pretty morning glorys good bye as I tore down the trellis of beans and cukes. Tim dug the carrots and onions up, harvesting 2 baskets full ! We will do a pot roast and all the goodies tomorrow and an end of season vegetable soup on wed. I still have peppers and a few tomatoes that are producing.

While in Okla we had a great weekend with Tim's brother Don and Pam.
We spent many hours in the pool and lounge there. And I sewed non stop
the rest of the time. All the good deed fabric I packed with me made 3 Linus tops in bright colors. When that was used up I hit the local quilt shop for new colors and stitched up 3 more tops, 6 tops in 3 weeks !

This past week time was spent basting, quilting, hemming 3 for gifts. Now that that's off my mind, next week is a bit of 'clean the house' ... and then quilt a couple good deed tops, plus a few trips to the chiroDr and a few hours hand quilting . Its good to be home. ~K

wow summer has flown by.....

We had a good time the month of June in Okla. While there, we visited family across the line in Texas. We missed flooding in Gainsville Tx by few hours coming home. We also visited Nancy in Kansas and missed the flooding there by a few hours.

July, I made Two trips north.. Jake bought a big ol' house. Aaron had a bday turning 20! We celebrated both!

I found I had pretty good motion in the water for my back.. so bought a blue jelly bean pool to play in.... That has been a very nice summer treat.

Our garden is providing many tomatoes, beans, cukes, eggplants, and various peppers for meals. I haven't canned much, but we sure have ate well ! Diva picks her own goodies from the garden and munches in the shade while we swim.

For the Good Deeds, I was finally home long enough to place and receive an order for 35 yards bulk batting. I have basted several tops already. I have 4 quilts done to take to Shells in KC on Sat. This brings the total to 39 quilts finished !

We are on the road again>>>>>>>>>>> back in Sept !!!

I have several tops waiting for batting. These were started by Nancy with some blocks out of her box. Thanks Nancy! Also waiting are 7 cheater panel tops.

We will be spending the month of June away at school for Tim. I have my machine and projects with me. We'll see how much gets done.

Long weekend

hihi,
We have a long weekend here Tim took a day off to go to the Airshow and a picnic tomorrow.

I have spent the week sorting thru all the many boxes of fabric. I now have three large, carefully folded boxes. I sorted them into colors, backings, and Hot idea/coordinated bundles. I filled a hanger with six cheater cloth panels and backsides. quickies! I also pieced two tops this week. ALL these tops are waiting for batting. I'll have to order a new bulk roll soon !

I quilted with the walking foot 4 days this week and have 5 tops ready to be hemmed. Those will be saved for lazy summer days coming up.

The month of June will be spent in Okla at a school for Tim. I'm slowly starting to organize things for traveling.

A busy month here !!!

I just finished up hemming EIGHT Blue quilts, plus SIX others !!

I finished up and mailed 10 pretty RED Feathered Stars to Tx.

I'm packed up to go north few days with Shell and Lin, with me will be a big box and 2 saks with FIFTEEN Finished Quilts for the Linus project in Kansas City. Every quilt that has had a picture on here over the past few months is DONE. Check the past entries to see them.

A short update on the BLUE quilt blocks. They are assembled into FIVE quilt tops with borders today! along with THREE more BLUE quilt tops tomorrow !!

We will have 8 blue tops from those boxes you ALL shared.

The rest the week will be shopping a couple borders to Jazz the last 3 up. Plus I think both of us will be in the garage basting all these. !

To many hours to count on this batch of tops.... most days were 5 - 8 hrs.
I feel like I have J O B again ... ahahaha pics soon ~~K

Frazzled in Blue

whewww... Taking a break from the BLUE.... I have the BLUES and then some!.. Im singing the BLUES..... and here are the BLUEhoos.....

From another mail list it was suggested to DO something with the predominant color in the stash... Shells box had plenty of Country BLUES plus my stash made for quite the variety of BLUE. We have BOTH worked on this all week.

I think there is plenty of BLUE there for 5- 6 BLUE Quilts... maybe more... We have BLUE piled on the table, BLUE on the buffet, BLUE in a box on the floor, BLUE stacked on the ironing board. Im sewing them all on the Sears BLUE smurf machine, seemed appropriate.

IM sure this will pass !... just have to keep at it.

Mean while the Garden digger guy was here..... We enlarged the spot a couple passes and cruised the garden store this morning for seeds. Between BLUE adventures Ill be playing in the dirt !! enjoy ~~K

For NOT being the usual kind of quilter that buys fabric just because its pretty.... and being one that redrafts her patterns so she buys to the inch or close........ and Used to BRAG about only having 3 lil boxes for extra scrap........ I now have 12 big boxes of fabric.... EEEEEEk!! I cant sew this fast !!!

it All looks good,,, it will All have a use. I see pretty colors, back sides,, neutrals,, boy style.. girl style.. TONS of Good Deeds in those boxes ! I need elves in the night to assemble all my ideas !!

A mail list recently asked quilters to DO something with the predominate color of their stash. One box here had bunches of country blue, so I sorted thru mine and all these other boxes for all the country blue,,,,,, and I cut....... and cut some more. I'm guessing I will have enough gypsey/windowpane blocks to do 5 tops. Give me couple weeks to get it together.

I'm also thinking I need a simple fast good looking pattern that comes out at 42" wide and simple to quilt... still looks nice... so I can use up some of this fabric and get the Good Deeds out the door !.... faster .. Better.... hmmmm..

We got gas for the grill today. Then shivered out there while grilling brats. But hey, Its Spring ~~ K

Its Spring

I think for sure Spring has arrived down here.

An editor of the local paper wrote of wanting to till and plant her garden and the neighbors holding her back !! I feel that urge too But in Iowa we had to wait till mid May. My garden is cleaned off and ready for the tiller guy when ever he thinks its time. We have had all manner of birds in the yard and park. The daffodils are blooming next door. I have even cleaned the closet out of winter sweaters !

On the topic of stitching, I spent this past week on an order for Susan in Tx. Thats been mailed out. Then I basted & quilted 4 Good Deed tops and have the binding ready to hem ! They will go on a short trip to St Louis with us and be hemmed along the route.

I spent 14 hrs with the Good Deeds this week bringing total to 319.

Its been nice to see comments made recently !! I hope to see more!
Take a walk. Watch the season change ! ~~K

In Like a Lion

Its March !! We had fat red robins all over the place the past few days.
We've been setting outside in the swing. The Lil Dogs are digging and having muddy noses. We have contracted to have more cement added to the back patio.

Shell of KC, was here this past week and we had a great time. She brought boxes of fabric from her Club Ladys. The boxes had all styles and colors of fabrics. I see several quilt combinations coming from those boxes !! She also had a dollar card in her pocket, I'm set for a bit !

Shell has been to Iowa recently and had a box from Lin's Neighbor Ladys... again.. bunches of good quilts coming from that box!

Then I got a box from Lori in Ia. with bright fabrics and other colors that are promising more Good Deeds!

Wow this has bloomed, This has grown more than I thought.. Tim and I started this thinking 25 to 30 quilts for the year. I sent a box of FOUR DONE quits home with Shell so she can call her local LINUS folks. This brings the total of 15 DONE quilts out there doing their jobs. I have 4 tops on hangars here, 4 more are basted ready for quilting and all this fabric spread out on the spare bed. WOW... Thanks to all of you... we are on a roll !! ~~~K

Oscars

Another week gone by.... We will name this one The Oscars simply because its on at the moment. The dogs and I are closed in the office here watching and hand quilting on my winter quilt watching the fancy dresses. Diva can't get into trouble back here !

After couple days of not functioning from PT... I got back to work on Thurs and in the garage to baste 4 quilts. Fri, Sat, Sun I got them quilted and hemmed.

I also basted Kay's big school house top and accomplished a whole hour of hand quilting.

This weeks total time is up to 305 hrs with Four Good Deed Quilts in the new DONE pile !

Busy Weekend

The quilts are OUT the door !!! the gal came yesterday and snatched up 2 fat boxes full of 10 quilts. Now its time to get a new stack ready. I think I will pass the next batch to local Linus around KC.

I'm hoping for couple warm days to be out in the garage and baste tops. I have several on hangers ready for the next step.

I worked steady yesterday and have 3 school house tops done !! One for family.. and two for Good Deeds. Today I'll do borders on couple feathered stars that didn't sell on Ebay. ~~~ enjoy ~K

School House Quilts

Its snowing again !!! Which is fine here I'm not going anywhere!
I'm busy building school houses. 24 red school houses are done, ready to set into sashing and grow from there into quilt tops! I'm doing one for Kay in Co. I'm doing two more for the Good Deeds. If I stay at it they will all be tops by Sunday night.

We are looking forward to the Linus Person coming Tomorrow (sat aft)
and giving her 10 quilts to put to work. Hope the snow doesn't make her wait another week.

I fussed on the school houses 12 hours this week, bring the total to 275 hrs.

A Week

Its been a busy week. but not all that time was spent on actual sewing of Good Deed Quilts.

The past weeknd was SuperBowl, with Many ladys I chat with doing a 'sewingsuperbowlmadness marathon' (say that fast !!!) I hemmed two quilts . Plus during this madness I got FIVE Pink Feathered Stars DONE. They were mailed To Susan in TX on Tuesday. The profits will go in the Good deed fund. Thanks Susan.

I think its very wonderful how this has branched out, and bloomed with help from so many locations. Amazing.

I had a reality check yesterday, with a note from sister requesting a quilt for a sick teenager. Its hard knowing where these are going,,, and for what. WAY WAY More than just my playing with the colors and filling empty hours........

. ....and so I mailed my first quilt today with small blessings from all of you that helped make this project reality. thank you.

I cant say I got alot DONE this week. but it has been an eventful week !

In the mail I recvd a $ card from Sonia in Iowa, a classmate of Shells. Thank you so much !! Sonia. We visited Walmart fabric dept and finished a bolt of the wide muslin for the backings. When it warms up just a bit I'll be back in the garage basting more tops !

I had a lightbulb moment when I ran across a school house quilt pattern in the spring web issue for QUILT magazine. This will be a quilt for a cousin in CO that lives in a renovated school house. ,, cool !

I also recvd an email from a past ebay customer that read the journal and she will be helping too ! I'm making her couple tops and will use toss the income into the good deed fund.

This weekend is the superbowl.... I will be marathon sewing, hemming and munchies along with the game. ~~~~~ enjoy ~~K

Plugging Away

Im plugging away. Each quilt needs to go thru the differant steps.

First the piecing with all the colors and puzzle shapes.
Then a good starch to glue all the seams down on the back. Followed by Time out in the cold garage laying out all the layers of backing, batting, and top to baste with a million safety pins.
NOW The machine is set up with the walking foot for the quilting and attaching the binding.
I need to get both those steps done on ALL these tops, in order to add them to the Hem pile. I should start hemming during Oprah's show.

The past week I used 20 hrs, bringing the total to 263. This weekend will be more basting , quilting, and hemming till I get this whole batch DONE. Wish you all were here ! a henparty I mean a HEMparty,,,, ahahalolll ~~~~K

Tim did pics for me today ! Here are the tops pieced in Jan so far. This is a patriotic one using squares with sashing.

We have TWO of this star with differant bright borders. Linda helped with the bright borders on this and the following top.

This is a very bright Gypsey top made using left over ebay blocks that didn't sell.

This is a earthy stain glass top using left over blocks from ebay.

There are 2 of this muted pink, green, vanilla top. Scraps in a variety colors are from both Nancy's box and mine.

We have THREE of this hot pink top with fabric from Kay! and the floral border from Nancy.

This light house panel was in Nancy's box.

There are TWO of this very bright top, paper pieced with phone book pages and small left over ebay scraps. The border is flamingos. We have another of the same with green and yellows.

Hibernating

Its feels like an Iowa winter here now. !!

Last Friday we went to town it was 48 when we left at 8 am, by 10 am we headed back home the temp dropped to 31 and it was misty pebbley snowing out! by noon the schools were closing, The small grocery store ran out of carts for the customers! I had a roast on and We were snuggling in for the long winter rest! ahahaha! ( thats why we have quilts!)

Hibernating!

It snowed. It rained. It sleeted, the roads closed, Any and all activity was canceled on the TV. And they didn't come out till wednesday!

Hibernating here involved LOTS of quilting and hemming the tops.

I stitched 28 hours this week. Bringing the total up to 243 hrs.
We have hit the $108 mark. I still have 3 boxes of colored fabric to use on the topsides. Ive spent on backing, batting and thread.

We have 6 DONEDONEDONE!!, 3 basted, 6 tops, 6 started= 21 quilts in progress. Ill try to get Tim to help with pics of the newer ones so you can all see the colors.

Oh yes, and the news has talk of more winter on its way this weekend.

Good Mail

I had Good Mail today.

After cleaning the house cuz I ran out of batting. I was just sitting down when The door bell rang !

It was the PO man with a box !!!

Lin sent a box with fabric and $ card and holiday pics.

Thanks Lin, for the goodie box!!! Im cutting already on the bright yellow and the med blue !! I had those colors bindings on the shopping list.... so it just what I needed. Altho its a toss up choice to use them as bindings or cut something NEW, but the machine is rigged with walking foot for bindings and quilting this week.

The other fabrics are great too.. you had fun shopping ! The $ card will for sure be put to good use also.. a sale on thread FRI ! I used 4 big spools this week ! and another sale on MON. Ill think of something for then too.

It looks like Jan will be quilting and hemming the bindings. I sure wish Gramma was here.. she liked hemming!

Time spent this week was 15hrs totaling 215. I actually finished ONE, so now can say the 'DONE pile' is started. The others in process will start landing there soon.

GUILTY !

Tim built a table with saw horses under it for basting. Its been a wonderfull help this week.. We have basted and quilted 7 tops!!

Fri I have coupons for Joanns and a list of stuff for bindings. I mail ordered 45 yards! of batting since the 10 yd roll disapeared in less than a week.

I noticed that one of the border fabrics (bears) is from Aunt Inez's box. Ive had that fabric awhile and now its found a good place.

I guess pooor me should clean house tomorrow, since I can't shop and Ive used up all the batting I had.

OR I Could Quilt on MY things.

Im enjoying working on the new table Tim built. Its 4 x 8 smooth plywood on saw horses. A much easier way of basting the tops then rearranging the dining room and crawling on the floor.

Wednesday we did shopping at Joanns... and got 10 yd batting and 7 yd wide muslin for the back sides and several spools of thread...blew $50.
I really need to watch the coupons for there, Things are more my price line when I get 40% OFF!

Ive been busy and have 3 basted with the new batting. Two of those are quilted !! waiting for the edgeing to be hemmed. Its a process I dont care for and the slowest part of this game. blah humbug....

Shell says I should keep track of the hours I spend on this project. With counting the tops so far and the almost tops in the basket Ill start at 200 hrs.

Ill tally them on Fridays,, this week will be 213 hours so far.

Diva is a quilter. She likes dragging things away. I had a small nest of strips she had tugged to the corner, and emty thread spool, My slipper, my drop cord, and small cotton ball tuffts of batting! After all that work she curled up in the box of scraps. ~~~~~~~K

Happy New Year !

Its official.... this is the start of this Good Deed Quilt project.

I've got a head start.. with 11 quilt tops ready for batting!
+
plus 7 Quilt tops need borders!..
+
plus 3 quilt tops that are blocks ready to assemble!

Hows that for a goal of 30 !!!!

Im sure I'll slow down with the quilting and binding. Thats not so fun.
And Im sure Ill keep on going till the funds and fabric dry up.

The big pink fabric from Kay has done its duty!. It is on the back side of one and makes up pink stars on FOUR others. Nancy's pink and blue floral went with it on those also.

Wednesday is go to town day.. I'll get several bulk rolls of batting
and many yards of wide muslin for the back sides.

Tim is building a table to baste them on...Very Handy!
It will be the 'Camp David Quilt Factory'

Last week I had the door bell ring several times with BOXES delivered to me.

Today, rather than DO the tree. I moved to the kitchen and dug in the fabric boxes!! wayy more fun ! So I found hot pink yardage in Kays box that will be a back side to a bright crazy pieced top ! PLUS I made two other tops from the left over pink so far. Then dug in Nancys box and found bright pink tulip for the border of one... and after rummaging lil bit deeper have a pink & blue floral border and backside for another. Three tops in one day... definitely inspired....

The Christmas tree still stands.

Jan 3rd is shopping day for batting.......... LOTS of it. ~~~~~~~K
